Frances Hodgson Burnett wrote “The Secret Garden” ninety-nine years ago as a series in the magazine, “The American Magazine”. The full story
was published in book form in 1911 and is now a public domain work worldwide. It is my favorite book of all time.
Because of its public domain status, anyone can download a copy on the internet, or read it online. Visit this link, if you desire to do so
(I highly recommend it, of course).
There have been many adaptations and presentations of “The Secret Garden,” including literary sequels written by other authors. Film, television,
stage and even animated productions exist.
My favorite film version is the 1987 Hallmark Hall of Fame production.
I am on my third copy of this book, as it’s a great book to give away for someone else’s reading pleasure. It is a story of survival, transformation,
love and healing. It’s still the best way to experience Ms. Burnett’s creation. I hope you have or will do so soon!
